Patients open medspa push notifications when the message is timely, relevant to their account or interests, specific about the value, and linked directly to one useful destination. Write one reason, one action, and one honest urgency signal; measure downstream patient action rather than open rate alone.

Push is permission to interrupt. The clinic keeps that permission by making the interruption useful.

A notification is not the campaign. It is the doorway into an offer, reward, membership action, package, educational page, or account state. The destination must finish the promise made in the message.

Start with a patient reason

We miss you and Book now describe the clinic's desire, not the patient's reason. Lead with what changed for the patient.

  • A reward or benefit is available
  • A relevant offer has a real deadline or capacity limit
  • A membership or payment state needs attention
  • A package or voucher is ready to use
  • A clinic update materially affects the patient's next action

Write one notification, not a tiny email

Use a direct title, a short body, and one action. Put essential terms on the destination page rather than compressing unreadable conditions into the notification.

  • Weak: Big news! Tap to see our amazing specials.
  • Stronger: Your member-first skin event opens today. See the six available Tuesday appointments.
  • Weak: Don't miss out!!!
  • Stronger: Your $25 referral reward is ready in Wallet.

Use honest urgency

Urgency should come from a real end time, available capacity, expiring patient value, or operational deadline. False countdowns teach patients to distrust future messages.

If the offer can be extended indefinitely, do not pretend it cannot.

Route to the exact destination

Deep-link to the specific reward, drop, membership, plan, package, or account action. A generic home screen makes the patient search for the thing the notification promised.

Test the destination from an installed app, cold start, signed-out state, and current production build.

Respect consent and frequency

Ask for notification permission after explaining the patient value. Honor platform permissions and clinic communication preferences. Do not use push to bypass SMS or email consent requirements.

Frequency should follow relevance. A useful account notification and a promotional blast should not consume the same trust budget.

Use a practical message framework

  • Reason: what changed for this patient or audience?
  • Value: why is it worth interrupting now?
  • Boundary: what honest time, inventory, or eligibility limit applies?
  • Action: what one thing should the patient do?
  • Destination: where exactly will the tap land?
One patient reason. One action. One destination that keeps the promise.

Measure beyond opens

An open without a useful downstream action may indicate curiosity, confusing copy, or a broken destination. The business measure belongs after the tap.

  • Permission opt-in and disable rate
  • Delivery failures
  • Opens where reliably available
  • Destination views
  • Reservations or purchases
  • Redemptions
  • Uninstalls and support contacts

Questions clinic owners ask

What is a good push notification open rate for medspas?

Use the clinic's own platform-specific baseline. Public benchmarks vary by industry, operating system, attribution method, audience, and notification type, making a universal number unreliable.

How often should a medspa send push notifications?

Send when there is a relevant patient reason. Monitor permission disables, uninstalls, and downstream action rather than imposing a generic weekly quota.

Should push replace SMS and email?

No. Each channel has different reach, consent, urgency, and content strengths. Use push for activated app patients and choose other consented channels when they better fit the message.
